How I Got 21k+ Users in 3 Weeks with $0 Spent on Marketing

The short version: build the marketing into the product, then film it.
After my last post about hitting 24k+ ARR in under 3 weeks, a lot of people asked how. So here it is, straight to the point, just what worked for me.
The Process
You need what I'd call a "viral-loop" inside your app. Meaning: what's the most engaging, dopamine-driven part of your product that you can make content around, and does it naturally contain a hook and a reward?
Here's mine. I built a mobile game where the core loop is spot a car → take a photo → AI generates a 2D render of that exact car. Start to finish, 30-45 seconds.
So I screen-record that exact flow - me walking up to the car in real life, all the way through the render generating in-app. Then I take it into TikTok, cut out any fat or processing time, put trending audio over it, and add on-screen text as the hook ("pov: you built X for Y").
That's it. 5 minutes max from recording to posted. The video saves to my gallery with the music, so I share the same thing to Instagram - same caption, same hashtags. Nothing complicated, because it doesn't need to be.
For reference: a normal video for me does around 5k-15k views. The one that broke through did 600k+ views, and that week alone brought in over 15k+ downloads.
The Journey
You need at least some passion behind what you're building and marketing. People can tell when you're doing something purely for money - what resonates is when they can tell you're actually excited about it.
I've genuinely connected with a lot of users through DMs and comments because we share the same interest that the game is built around. Those are the people who bought the subscription and shared the app with their friends. That's the foundation you want early.
It also takes consistency. It took 20+ videos before one hit, posting every single day across both platforms. That'll seem fast to some of you and slow to others. Either way, it's mostly luck and timing tbh - just post. The content doesn't need to be perfect as long as the hook/reward loop is there and it's engaging.
And before someone does the math in the replies: yes, 21k users and 24k of projected ARR means a small share of users are paying. That's normal for a freemium app, and it's the same funnel that lets the free tier do the marketing for me.
The Overview
- Build an app with a "viral-loop" as the core user experience.
- Make UGC around that loop so you're using its hook/reward system naturally.
- Post to TikTok first, save to gallery, cross-post everywhere else.
- Be consistent. Post daily so the algorithm can actually reward you.
This is all from my own experience and it's just my opinion - doesn't mean it'll work the same for you. But it's what worked for me.
