📢 If you want more high-quality backlinks to rank higher but

↳ Your outreach gets ignored

↳ Buying links is expensive

Then here are the 10 link-building tactics the helped us get 37,700 AI Mentions in 3 Months you can turn into repeatable AI workflows.

👉Automate it with Claude, Codex or Cursor using one SEO Skill.

> Ahrefs studied over a billion pages. 96.55% of them get zero traffic from Google because they lack backlinks.

So backlinks are still king in SEO

You're probably stuck in this workflow:

↳ Publish an article.

↳ Export hundreds of websites.

↳ Send everyone the same template.

↳ Follow up three times.

↳ Get two replies and zero links.

The problem is you're not giving them a good reason to link to you.

A better workflow starts by finding proof of link intent:

↳ They already link to your competitors.

↳ They maintain a list of tools like yours.

↳ They're citing an outdated resource.

↳ They wrote something that is missing a visual or a video.

↳ They need data or expert commentary right now.

↳ You have an affiliate program they could benefit from (This is KING)

Then you give them something worth linking to.

Notice the pattern in that list. Every one of them is a reason that already exists on their side. You are not creating demand for a link. You are finding where the demand already sits.

Here are the 10 link-building workflows I would automate 👇

Everyone wants the link. Almost nobody wants to give one.

That is exactly why the fastest backlinks you will ever earn come from being the person who links out first.

🙌 Today we are releasing Exchange Only inside Distribb.

You publish 5 articles. All 5 are built to give and earn links at the same time.

(You can optionally publish up to 90 articles per month, but with the exchange-only option, you focus on only producing as much content as needed to give and receive links back)

Article image — "Exchange Only option, shipping today at Distribb.io"

Here is what that actually means:

↳ Distribb writes and publishes 5 articles through your connected CMS.

↳ Each one cites other real businesses in the network where the citation genuinely helps the reader.

↳ Every link you give earns you credits.

↳ Those credits come back as links from other real businesses, matched on relevance.

↳ You track exactly what you gave and what you received.

No directory dumps. No sitewide partner pages. No exact-match anchor spam. No forced "link to me and I'll link to you" pairs sitting in a footer.

Google explicitly warns against excessive exchanges and automated link creation, so relevance and editorial choice have to stay intact. That is the whole design constraint: the link has to make sense to a reader who has never heard of either company.

Why this goes first in the list: every other tactic below needs you to already have something worth linking to and a domain worth linking from. This is the one that runs while you build the rest.

Five articles. Links out, links back, tracked both ways.

2️⃣ Find listicles that recommend your competitors

Article image — "Distribb Link Outreach feature"

↳ Ask ChatGPT, Perplexity and Gemini the questions your buyers ask.

For example:

↳ "What are the best accounting tools for startups?"

↳ "What are the best alternatives to [competitor]?"

↳ "Which tools automate SEO for small businesses?"

Record the articles and sources appearing across several answers.

Then find the listicles that:

↳ Recommend two or more competitors.

↳ Don't mention you.

↳ Were recently published or updated.

↳ Have a clear author or editorial contact.

Don't email them saying:

> "Please add our tool to your article."

Show them the exact gap in their list.

Give them:

↳ The category they missed.

↳ What makes your product different.

↳ An edit-ready description.

↳ Screenshots, pricing and supporting evidence.

The author has already decided to recommend products in your category.

You're not creating demand for a link. You're showing them a missing option.

But keep in mind you will most likely have to pay. If you have an affiliate program, that's how you negotiate.

Article image — "Distribb.io feature finds articles linking to your competitors and not you"

↳ Add three to five competitors to Ahrefs or a Distribb workflow with Claude.

↳ Find domains linking to them but not to you.

↳ Prioritize sites linking to multiple competitors.

↳ Classify how each link was earned.

Was it:

↳ A listicle?

↳ A statistics page?

↳ A founder interview?

↳ A resource page?

↳ A guest contribution?

↳ An expert quote?

Most competitor backlinks cannot be copied.

But the pattern behind them often can.

If three competitors earned links from industry resource pages, build a resource worth adding.

If they earned links through original research, create better research.

If they appeared in expert roundups, find the editor and pitch a different perspective.

The backlink tells you what that website is willing to cite.

Use that evidence before you contact them.

Article image — "Claude finds broken links from your competitors"

Broken-link building means finding a dead page that still has backlinks, creating a relevant replacement and asking those websites to update the link.

The workflow:

↳ Find competitor pages returning a 404.

↳ Sort them by referring domains.

↳ Check what the original page contained.

↳ Remove irrelevant or low-quality prospects.

↳ Create a genuinely useful replacement.

↳ Contact every site still linking to the dead page.

Your outreach now solves a real problem:

> "Your article links to a resource that no longer exists. We created an updated replacement here."

Don't offer your homepage unless it genuinely replaces the missing resource.

The closer your page matches the original reason for the link, the stronger the pitch.

Article image — "Email template for broken link building at distribb.io"

This is the single best link magnet in link building, and almost nobody treats it like one.

Article image — "Distribb.io's SEO statistics page"

Choose a search query such as:

↳ "[industry] statistics 2026"

↳ "[industry] benchmarks"

↳ "[topic] adoption statistics"

↳ "[topic] trends and data"

Then create one definitive page containing:

↳ Current statistics from primary sources.

↳ A direct source for every number.

↳ Clear sections organized by journalist questions.

↳ Tables and original charts.

↳ A visible update date.

↳ Short, quotable takeaways.

These keywords are often less competitive than broad commercial terms.

More importantly, the people searching them are frequently writers looking for something to cite. A journalist on deadline does not want your opinion. They want a number with a source next to it.

Here's the format we use:

SEO Statistics You Need to Know in 2026

Refresh the page as new research appears.

One strong statistics page can support journalist pitches, listicle outreach, social content and future articles for months. It is the asset that makes tactics 6, 7 and 8 land, because you always have something to hand over.

6️⃣ Turn their article into a 60-second video (The Article Trailer Method)

Find a listicle an AI already cites, make its author a useful video with original insights, then pitch the asset instead of begging for a link.

The workflow:

↳ Find the articles you want a link from.

↳ Check whether AI chatbots actually cite those articles. An article is worth far more if ChatGPT or Perplexity already uses it as a source.

↳ Find the author's real email address. Do this before spending hours making the video.

↳ Find new data the article could use.

↳ Turn the article into a 60-second video that follows their structure and adds the new data.

↳ Add your product to the video, honestly, as one option among the ones they already listed.

↳ Send the video to the author and ask to be added.

Here's a video I made about this tactic specifically:

In my test, I asked Perplexity "What are the 8 best AI visibility tools in 2026?" and it cited one Zapier article throughout the answer. That made the Zapier article a far better target than a random listicle.

Nobody sends an author a finished video. That is the entire reason it works.

7️⃣ Build the infographic their article is missing (The Missing Visual Method)

Article image

Everyone will tell you infographic link building is dead.

But it's now possible again thanks to AI

> Infographic link building is back! http://x.com/i/article/2082123466246144000

The workflow:

↳ Find articles whose own subject demands a visual and has none. Numbered listicles, comparison tables, step-by-step guides.

↳ Open the article and count the H2s. Copy the headings word for word. 18 tools means your email says 18, not "a bunch of".

↳ Find the author's email.

↳ Ask before you build. Describe the graphic, ask if they want it. Cost per prospect: one email.

↳ Generate it only after they say yes, using their headings and their labels. Nothing invented.

↳ Read the finished image back word by word against their page before it goes out.

↳ Send two versions with the embed code. One credited, one clean. The clean one ships either way, or it isn't a gift.

Nobody edits their article to do a stranger a favour.

They will happily publish a graphic of their own work.

8️⃣ Answer journalists who already need a source

Article image

Journalist outreach works because the demand already exists.

Platforms like HARO (yes, they're back) connect experts with reporters actively requesting commentary, examples and data.

↳ Build a focused expert profile.

↳ Monitor requests related to your experience.

↳ Filter by relevance, publication and deadline.

↳ Answer the journalist's question immediately.

↳ Add one specific insight they can quote.

↳ Offer your statistics page as supporting evidence.

Don't turn the response into a product pitch.

Help them finish the story.

If they use your contribution, they may cite your research page or company alongside the quote.

The statistics page from tactic 5 makes the pitch stronger because you're bringing them a usable source, not merely asking for coverage.

A link doesn't need to return a 404 to be broken in practice.

Sometimes it points to:

↳ A discontinued product.

↳ An acquired company.

↳ An abandoned report.

↳ A page that redirects to the homepage.

↳ Advice that hasn't been updated in years.

Monitor competitor websites, rebrands, acquisitions and discontinued tools.

When a resource becomes outdated:

↳ Find every page linking to it.

↳ Create or identify a current replacement.

↳ Explain exactly what changed. ↳ Offer the updated resource.

The old link still works technically.

It just stopped helping the reader.

That gives the author a reason to replace it.

🔟 Reclaim unlinked mentions and assets

Article image — "Using the Distribb Skill with Claude to find unlinked brand mentions"

Search for websites already using:

↳ Your brand name.

↳ Your founder's name.

↳ A proprietary statistic.

↳ A chart from your research.

↳ A screenshot of your product.

↳ A quote from your team.

Then check whether they cited the original page.

If they didn't:

↳ Identify the author or editor.

↳ Show them the exact mention or asset.

↳ Give them the correct source URL.

↳ Ask for attribution so readers can verify it.

This is warmer than normal cold outreach.

They already know your work.

You're asking them to complete the citation.

Doing this manually is a lot of work, so we automated it inside the Distribb AI SEO Skill:

↳ Define the trigger.

↳ Choose the research sources.

↳ Add qualification rules.

↳ Create the required linkable asset, whether that's a replacement page, a statistics page, a video or an infographic.

↳ Find and verify the right contact.

↳ Draft personalized outreach.

↳ Queue it for approval.

↳ Track replies and follow-ups.

Build systems that continually find reasons for other websites to cite you.

The Skill researches the opportunities, creates and publishes the assets, finds the contacts, prepares the outreach and coordinates relevant editorial links across the network.

You review the opportunities worth pursuing.

And if you want the simplest possible starting point, Exchange Only is live today. Five articles that give links and earn them back, running while you work through the other nine.
