In July, I reached out to 651 websites to do a link-exchange.

  • 🚨 132 replied back
  • 🟒 6.6% success rate (got 43 backlinks)
  • πŸ“ˆ started getting MORE customers & traffic from Google + ChatGPT.

I had no idea how to do it at the beginning.

That’s why I wrote this article (to help others in the same position).

Step 1: Buy Ahrefs Lite Plan ($129/mo)

This might seem like an expensive investment.

But believe me it's not.

It will give you ALL the data you need.

In my experience, "Lite" is more than enough for a single website (so you don't need "Standard")

The strategy is pretty SIMPLE.

If you are NOT a very big brand, you should just start by copying your competitors' backlinks.

They already did the research and found the websites that accepts placements.

Here's the filters you need:

  • 🟒 30-85 DR
  • 🟒 do-follow
  • 🟒 no-spam
  • 🟒 min traffic 500
  • optional: page URLs contains "best" OR "top" and "software" OR "tool"

And then SORT by -> "First seen" ↓

You can now check the results, if they look good + relevant to your website, proceed.

Then, export -> via CSV (or to Google Spreadsheets).

Step 3: Reach out to EVERY SINGLE WEBSITE

Now you've done the hardwork (finding who to reach out to).

Rest is just very SIMPLE + BORING work πŸ˜…

> i also built an AI agent to automate this entire process btw elvixai.com since it was taking min. ~2 hours/day to do manually - it works 7/24 on autopilot πŸ€“

  • You'll open the link
  • Find how to contact (contact form OR live chat OR email)
  • Send your message
  • Save each to a simple spreadsheet (to keep a record)

Your copy should be clean and simple.

Just tell them who you are, why you're reaching out, your offer (link exchange - they link to you, you link back to them) - and that's it.

If you prefer using Elvix, you'll see a backlink outreach template created for you as well.

IMPORTANT LESSONS LEARNED

  • Volume is everything (~50 emails/day is GOOD)
  • Most will want money - it's totally up to you if you have a budget or not. Google recommends only editorial, non-paid placements.
  • Make sure you check every website "overview" tab in Ahrefs (to make sure they're not spammy and low quality)
  • You need high-quality content (articles, listicles etc.) on your website (so people have a reason to do a link-exchange with you).
  • Just ask Claude if you're not sure about anything. It can teach you the whole game.

I think we can agree on one point.

Showing up in AI answers is the FUTURE πŸ‘€

And backlink outreach helps you both:

  • Build your authority (so LLMs trust you more)
  • Get into "top" and "best" listicles (LLMs love suggesting tools from those)
