Link building is trial and error.

Some of these got replies in a day, some got ignored for six weeks.

Ahrefs studied a billion pages and 96.55% get zero traffic from Google, because nobody links to them.

These are the 10 link building tactics we built into the Distribb SEO brain for AI agents.

👉Install the Distribb skill in Claude, Codex or Cursor and point it at your site.

The agent does the keyword research, writes and publishes the articles through your CMS, and cites other businesses in the network where it helps the reader.

Every link you give earns one back, matched on relevance.

2. I found listicles that already recommend my competitors

Ask AI what your buyers ask, like "best alternatives to [competitor]", and log every article that keeps showing up.

Send that author the category they missed, an edit-ready description and screenshots. They already decided to recommend tools like yours.

Put 3 to 5 competitors into Ahrefs and pull every domain linking to them and not to you.

Most of those links can't be replicated. The reason each one exists usually can.

If three competitors earned links from industry resource pages, build a resource worth adding.

4. I replaced their dead pages

Find competitor URLs returning a 404 that still have referring domains, sorted by how many.

Build something that genuinely replaces what was there, not your homepage.

Your email now fixes a broken article instead of asking for a favor, which is why people reply.

5. I built a statistics page journalists could cite

Pick a query like "[industry] statistics 2026" and put a direct source next to every number.

A reporter on deadline wants a figure they can attribute, not your opinion.

One page feeds journalist pitches, listicle outreach and social posts for months. It's what makes tactics 6, 7 and 8 land.

6. I turned articles into a 60-second videos

I asked Perplexity for the 8 best AI visibility tools in 2026 and it cited one Zapier article throughout the answer. That made Zapier a far better target than a random listicle.

Get the author's email before you spend two hours filming.

Make a 60-second version of their article with new data in it, your product listed honestly as one option. Nobody sends an author a finished video, which is why it works.

7. I built the infographic their article was missing

Find numbered listicles and step-by-step guides that need a visual and don't have one, then copy their H2s word for word.

Ask before you build. One email per prospect, and you only design it after they say yes.

Send two versions with the embed code, one credited and one clean. A gift with a condition is not a gift.

8. I answered journalists who already needed a source

HARO is back and reporters on it are asking for commentary, examples and data right now.

Answer the question first, add one line they can quote, then offer your statistics page as evidence.

A link doesn't have to 404 to be broken. It can point at a discontinued product, an acquired company or a report nobody has touched since 2022.

Track rebrands, acquisitions and shutdowns in your space, then find every page still linking to the old thing.

Tell the author what changed and hand them the current version.

10. I asked for attribution on mentions we already had

Search for your brand name, your founder's name, your stats, your charts and your product screenshots on other people's sites.

Check whether they linked the original. Plenty didn't.

They already know your work, so you're asking them to finish a citation, not do a stranger a favor.

Lesson

Every tactic here starts on the other side. They already link to your competitors, they already cite something that died, they already need a number before Friday.

You're not creating demand for a link. You're finding where it already sits.

The part that doesn't scale by hand is the asset, **so we automated it in the Distribb AI SEO Skill:** it researches the opportunity, builds and publishes the page, video or infographic, verifies the contact, drafts the outreach and queues it for your approval.
