how i co-scaled a jewelry brand to 8 figures with google ads

i was 20 years old, living in a penthouse, and running google ads for a jewelry brand doing million dollar months.

the brand was running meta. doing decent numbers. but the profit margins were thin. the meta CPMs were climbing every quarter. the creative team was on a treadmill. and the brand owner knew the ceiling was coming.

i came in to run google. and what happened next is still my biggest achievement to date.

we started hitting £30k, £35k, £40k days consistently. scaled to million dollar months. google didn't replace meta, it made the entire business more profitable. because the traffic was intent-based, the conversion rates were higher, and the margins were fatter on every sale google drove.

here's how the system worked, broken down by every mechanism we implemented and the metric each one moved.

the diagnosis: why the brand was stuck

the brand had a strong foundation. beautiful product. loyal customer base. the "you are my sunshine" sunflower necklace was their hero product with a sub-1% refund rate.

but the advertising infrastructure was holding the brand hostage.

problem 1: meta dependency. 90%+ of revenue came through meta. every algorithm change hit the bottom line directly.

problem 2: no google ecosystem. the google ads account was an afterthought. one PMAX campaign, broad targeting, no feed optimisation.

problem 3: profit margins under pressure. meta's CPMs were rising. the cost to acquire a customer was climbing.

the google ecosystem build

step 1: google merchant center overhaul

before a single campaign launched, we restructured every product title to lead with the search keyword, not the brand name. descriptions rewritten to lead with emotional outcomes in the first 150 characters. supplemental feed built with margin data on every SKU.

step 2: campaign segmentation by intent and margin

branded search: manual CPC, exact and phrase match, 95%+ impression share.

non-branded shopping: high-margin products got their own campaign with aggressive bids. lower-margin accessories got conservative campaigns.

non-branded search by ICP angle: three distinct buyer segments, each with their own campaign:

  • boyfriends searching "romantic necklace gift for girlfriend"
  • mothers searching "daughter birthday necklace"
  • friends searching "best friend gift ideas"

same product. three completely different emotional entry points. each converting at different rates with different CPAs.

step 3: youtube shorts as demand gen

youtube shorts did two things:

  1. filled the remarketing pool. viewers who watched the shorts entered our google remarketing audiences. 3-10 days later, they showed up in our shopping and search campaigns with significantly higher conversion rates
  2. amplified meta performance. viewers who saw the youtube short and later saw a meta retargeting ad were pre-primed. the trust transfer had started before the meta ad hit

step 4: feed duplication on the winning angle

once we identified the highest-converting ICP angle, we duplicated the product feed with titles optimised specifically for that angle's keyword set. same product, different title, different keyword targeting. multiple positions in the shopping SERPs for our winning query cluster.

the product psychology that made it scale

the sunflower necklace scaled to 8 figures because of psychological triggers baked into the product itself.

emotional permanence: the message "you are my sunshine" is declarative. every time the recipient sees the necklace they remember who gave it, why they gave it, and the moment they received it. the refund rate on this product was 0.8%. returning it means rejecting someone's love. psychologically impossible for most people.

the gift loop: 42% of women who received this necklace as a gift became customers within 90 days. they bought gifts for the person who bought for them. one customer generates a second without additional ad spend.

vague personalisation: "you are my sunshine" feels personal even though it's mass-produced. the product creates the relationship dynamic. not reflects it.

perceived value stacking: two charms (the engraved circle + the sunflower). total cost to add the second charm: £0.30. customer perception: "they included an extra charm. definitely worth £67."

month 1 conversion rate: 2.1%. month 6: 3.8%. reviews compounded. recipients became buyers. word of mouth spread. the product got easier to sell over time, not harder.

the numbers

the european account:

  • revenue grew from €8.44K to €15.5K to €37.7K month over month
  • CPA dropped from €107 to €90 to €72
  • ROAS grew from 2.37 to 3.62 to 4.10

the US account scaled harder. £30k-£40k days became consistent. million dollar months happened.

and here's the metric most people miss: google didn't replace meta. meta kept running. but because google traffic converted at higher rates with better margins, the overall blended margins improved across the business.

what this means for your brand

find products that trigger emotional responses. then build the ecosystem around them.

the ecosystem i built captured and amplified the psychological triggers already in the product. the ICP-segmented campaigns spoke to each buyer's emotional motivation. the youtube shorts showed real reactions. the shopping listings highlighted emotional outcomes, not product specs.

the google ads system was the accelerant. the product psychology was the fuel. together, they hit 8 figures.
