How Obsidian + Claude Made Me 10x More Productive

I used to keep my brain in 6-7 different places: 40 Claude tabs, a dying Notion workspace, Telegram saved messages, Apple Notes, random folders, and my own fading memory. Every new project or post started with 15-25 minutes of “where did I see this before?”

Then I built a real AI Second Brain with Obsidian + Claude Code. Now I open Obsidian and the model already knows my style, past decisions, current goals, and connections I forgot I made.

This isn’t just “better notes.” It’s a living AI co-founder that never forgets and works while you sleep.

Why scattered notes and chat tabs fail hard in 2026

Most people still copy-paste into a new chat and close the tab. The result?

  • 60-70% of context disappears between sessions
  • Ideas never connect
  • You re-solve the same problems
  • Your content and projects stay average because there’s no deep personal history fueling them

In 2026, the winners aren’t the ones with more tools. They’re the ones with persistent memory + an AI that actively maintains it.

Full stack that actually works

ComponentRoleWhy it wins
ObsidianStorage + knowledge graphLocal markdown files, [[wikilinks]], visual graph, you own everything
Claude CodeThe brain (reads & writes files)Desktop app with direct folder access (Pro/Team plan needed)
MCP + Local REST APISecure bridgeLets Claude operate on your vault without manual copy-paste
Karpathy LLM WikiStructure (raw/ + wiki/)raw/ = immutable sources; wiki/ = AI-synthesized pages & links
Obsidian SkillsPerfect formattingClaude writes real callouts, Bases, Canvas instead of “almost right”
AutomationsDaily/weekly runsNew files → connections → summaries → stale flags

Step-by-step: Build it yourself (copy-paste ready)

Step 1: Core setup (15 mins)

  1. Download Obsidian and create a new vault called Brain.
  2. Enable Community Plugins → install Local REST API.
  3. Enable it and copy the API key (remove “Bearer”).

Step 2: Connect Claude Code

Open Claude Desktop → Code tab. Add the MCP bridge (use mcp-obsidian or community starter).

Test prompt: “List every file in my vault.” If it works, you’re in.

Step 3: Load your full context (most important part)

Create CLAUDE.md in the root and paste:

You are now the maintainer and co-founder of my Second Brain.
Ask me 8-10 sharp questions to deeply understand:
- My thinking and work style
- Current projects and 3-6 month goals
- How I make decisions
- Recurring themes
- What matters most in content/products

After my answers, create a detailed profile in this file so you remember me better than I remember myself.

Answer honestly. Depth = power.

Step 4: Activate Karpathy structure

Prompt Claude:

Set up this structure:
- raw/ → I drop raw sources here (PDFs, articles, screenshots, transcripts, ideas)
- wiki/ → You create and update synthesized pages, summaries, and connections

Rule: I never edit wiki/. I only add to raw/. You read raw/, build/update wiki pages, add [[wikilinks]], catch contradictions.

Connect your calendar and let it log meetings + next actions automatically.

My real results after 21 days

  • 214 notes in the vault (~60% created by Claude)
  • 89 automatic connections I never manually added
  • 4 deep wiki summary pages on key topics (content strategy, AI workflows, client cases)
  • -23 hours saved hunting old info
  • 14 new content/product ideas that surfaced from forgotten connections
  • 2 posts that hit >8k and >14k views, born directly from graph insights

Best part: I stopped forgetting my own ideas. The brain now works for me.

What’s next

  • Archive old X/Twitter posts and emails into raw/
  • Weekly deep-dive prompt: “Find hidden patterns across my goals from the last 90 days”
  • Test multi-agent setups on the same vault
  • Build a UGC/content factory version: call transcripts → 5-7 viral angles automatically

One unbreakable rule

Never give full delete access. Use scoped keys and read-only where possible. “Don’t delete” is just words proper permissions are settings.

Save this guide it’s evergreen.

Drop your biggest bottleneck in the comments:

  • “I lose ideas between sessions”
  • “Can’t connect old knowledge to new”
  • “Want this for UGC/content factory”
  • “Tried it but dropped after week 2”

I’ll help tailor it for you.

Follow for daily actionable AI systems (not just tools).
