How The Brain's Detoxification System Controls Human Consciousness

This was a very interesting find and it ties directly into some of the concepts I'm putting together from other's work around consciousness, nervous system function, and detoxification.

Human consciousness is a very challenging concept to grasp, many have tried to explain how the mind, body, and spirit combine to comprehend its internal state and external surroundings — sight, sound, emotions, and feelings. There's some theories around consciousness emerging from maximally integrated information within a posterior cortical "hot zone," particularly temporo-parietal-occipital regions — known as the Integrated Information Theory (IIT). Another theory is the Global Neuronal Workspace Theory (GNWT) which considers consciousness occuring when information is globally broadcasted from the ignition of an anterior network also involving cortical regions like the prefrontal cortex. These are incomplete and only consider cortical function rather than a whole body state of awareness of consciousness.

There's also the Orch-OR theory by Stuart Hameroff and Roger Penrose that outlines consciousness emerging from the vibrations of microtubules. This is probably the most valid out of them all. I must research further to determine if it connects with the below at all.

The Glymphovasomotor Field Theory is one of the most interesting theories related to consciousness yet, as it encompasses nervous system function, cerebrovascular dynamics, glymphatic detoxification, electromagnetic waves, and water networks that flow through the cerebrospinal fluid (CSF). Ultimately, it's the CSF that act as a sacred river running up and down the spinal cord, through the ventricles of the brain, and exchanging with the pools of blood plasma, interstitial fluid, and fascial networks of the body.

Albeit quite philosophical and theoretical in certain ways, I spoke about this concept even a few years ago, you can read it HERE. If you search 'cerebrospinal fluid' within my skool community you'll find a lot more too.

CSF flows to provide the nervous system with nutrients and floods brain regions with various metabolites with every single region it touches. Alongside this, it helps clear metabolic wastes and toxins that we don't want to lingering within the nervous system which contribute to aging, neuroinflammation, neurodegeneration, and I'll also add to this — a potential collapse of human consciousness (which ties into all the others).

The detoxifcation network of the brain is known as the glymphatic system. The main medium for this process to occur is CSF. I've spoke about that HERE in my lymphatic and glymphatic protocol, I highly encourage you to read it.

The glymphatic system is not a simple drainage system. It works best during deep sleep, meditations, breath work, and movement. This process is dependent on norepinephrine released from the locus coruelus (LC) in a rhythmic fashion acting on adrenergic receptors to drive vasomotion — essentially, rhythms of squeezing and relaxing of blood vessels that "pushes" the CSF in a direction to create a tide of water flow, driving glymphatic clearance, and ultimately detoxification.

CSF is electrically conductive, and there are ions within the CSF and interstitial fluid (ISF), and as these ions move and accelerate, they generate an electromagnetic field, which drives oscillations of a non-neuronal field to generate human consciousness. The cardiovascular and respiratory system also generate electromagnetic fields and I predict that these all couple together to create the human aura. I'll also add that the flow of CSF also creating a rippling effect, where phonons and solitons are generated throughout the water networks that ripple through the nervous system too. The ventricles of the brain that store CSF houses the cerebral cortex, pineal gland, pituitary gland, hypothalamus, thalamus, brain stem, cerebellum, and spinal cord. On the walls of these ventricles are cilia, hair-like structures which generate movement and flow. They are like an antenna that monitors the fluid and contain receptors that pick up information within the fluid. They also contain photoreceptors that respond to light; chemoreceptors that respond to biomolecules (eg., neurotransmitters, growth factors); and mechanoreceptors that detect flow, movement, and vibrations.

Glymphatic clearance also relies on aquaporin-4 (AQP4) channels being assembled and organized in a certain polarizable way on astrocyte endfeet for proper clearance of ISF. It seems that cytokines, free radicals, hormones, neurotransmitters, and gasotransmitters have the potential to influence. For example, melatonin enhances AQP4 expression.

If you watched my webinars in the Quantum Biology section inside my skool community. I mentioned how photons can travel through water. Including fascia, could this all be tied to the energy channels known as meridians observed in Chinese Medicine and other ancient cultures? I believe so.

As outlined in the paper below, the brain "acts like an orchestra" where the neurons are instruments with each possessing their own distinct sound. We have almost 100 billion neurons, so think about how incredible that sounds. Each play their own sound in isolation, which is out of synchronization — the flow of CSF generating an electromagnetic signal creates coherence within this system. Ultimately, the neurons synchronize and work together — generating the melodies of thoughts, memory, emotions, and perception in a harmonious fashion.

If we consider what negative shifts in consciousness implies, it is tied to distorted layers of physical reality. Think of disorders like dementia, schizophrenia, strokes, or psychosis. These conditions have impaired glymphatic detoxification, alongside shifts in consciousness.

What's interesting is that GABAergic medications that are sedative also shifts consciousness. Studies have shown that using the GABA-A agonist drug, Zolpidem, with tied to reduced vasomotion and decreased glymphatic flow. This also reduces EEG brain waves into the low frequency range. Ketamine is an NMDA receptor antagonist, and seems to also work in such a way.

Melatonin is another obvious example here that alters states of consciousness, released from the pineal gland at night. It enhances glymphatic flow within the brain and it also alters states of consciousness, by shifting an individual from waking to sleeping. A waking state encompasses higher levels of norepinephrine, dopamine, serotonin, acetylcholine, glutamate, and epinephrine which also plays a role in shifting consciousness and glymphatic flow.

We only have 50,000 neurons found within the LC. So neuroinflammation and oxidative damage can destroy this region and negatively affect its function. Disease and aging essentially collapse consciousness in this model. The more that we can prevent this, the potentially higher levels of consciouness can be achieved. These neurons under damage affects their synchronization, their gap junctions, their communication, and the incoming signals from GABA and glutamate to modulate the rhythm of vasomotion oscillations 0.01 - 0.1Hz (tonic activity during daytime driving arousal is 1 - 5Hz).

Now for the most interesting part. In this study, advanced meditators (~3700 hours of experience) were assessed in an MRI machine during deep meditation (~30 minutes). They found that them flow of CSF shifted, towards a median frequency of 0.0614 - 0.0887 Hz — that's right in the middle of the oscillations driven by deep sleep! This means that meditation may also shift consciousness in such a way, whilst also being in a state of wakefulness (technically). I was very happy to have found this paper.

So to conclude, it seems that the glymphatic system and water networks within the brain may be driving consciousness as we know it, at least it's the best theory I've found. I would love to connect how this may link to the Orch-OR theory of consciousness, which is also a very valid theory. The idea that CSF is the medium that drives this ties directly into ancient cultures — Yogi's/Ayurveda identifying chakras found along the spinal cord; and Taoists identifying Dantien energy centers, alongside naming the third ventricle where the pineal and pituitary glands reside as the "Crystal Palace."

Article image

The pineal gland also contains microscopic calcite crystals that contains piezoelectric properties. The flow of CSF through the third ventricle generates a mechanical-to-electrical conversion of energy, which converts fluid motion into electrical/conscious energy. Taoists may have considered this concept as "igniting internal light."

There's many more concepts to connect here, such as Gerald Pollack's work on exclusion zone water; Emilio Del Guidece and Mae Wan Ho's work on coherent domain water; or physicists like Stuart Hameroff and Roger Penrose who founded the Orch-OR theory — tied to microtubules driving consciounesss. However, I'll end it here. I hope you enjoyed.
