Build a Marketing Intelligence System With Grok Bot

I want one Grok Bot whose entire job is to know what's happening in my market before I do.

While I'm working I want it:

→ Checking what competitors changed

→ Reading their new landing pages

→ Watching the ads they keep running

→ Finding new products and launches

→ Seeing what people are suddenly talking about

→ Finding the words customers actually use

→ Spotting topics that are starting to appear everywhere

Then I want it to tell me what I should actually care about.

So I built a Marketing Intelligence system.

By the end of this article I'll give you the setup + instructions so you can make your own.

TL;DR

I want Grok Bot watching my market while I'm doing everything else.

Competitors. Ads. Launches. Customer language. Positioning.

It logs the small stuff, connects the dots, and only comes to me when something actually looks worth my attention.

Start with a watchlist

First thing I'm giving it is a list of what matters to me.

Companies.

People.

Products.

Keywords.

Websites.

Communities.

Topics.

For me that obviously leans heavily into AI + marketing.

Your list could be completely different.

I include things like:

→ Direct competitors

→ Products my audience already uses

→ Companies I think are doing great marketing

→ People who move conversations in my space

→ Places my audience actually talks

→ Topics I regularly write about

Then I give Grok Bot the job of watching them.

Not scrolling through every page every day and sending me 400 updates.

I only want changes.

A competitor changes its homepage.

Someone launches a new product.

Pricing changes.

A new phrase starts appearing everywhere.

A company suddenly starts advertising something heavily.

A post gets a weird amount of attention.

Customers start complaining about the same problem.

That's useful.

I don't want a news Bot

This is where I think most people would build the wrong thing.

I don't need:

"OpenAI launched a new feature"

I have X.

I'll probably see it.

I need Grok Bot to keep going.

Who is talking about it?

How are companies positioning around it?

Are competitors changing anything because of it?

What are people complaining about?

What are people asking for?

Has anyone started advertising against it?

Is there something here that matters to my marketing?

A launch isn't automatically a marketing opportunity.

Sometimes a launch is just a launch but I want it finding the stuff happening around the launch that everyone else missed.

Make it remember everything

I don't want Grok finding something today and forgetting it tomorrow.

So everything useful goes into a running Marketing Intelligence log.

Something simple:

DATE

SOURCE

WHAT CHANGED

EVIDENCE

WHY IT MAY MATTER

WHAT TO WATCH NEXT

That gives it history.

Now it can notice that a company has changed its positioning three times in six months.

Or that a topic has slowly gone from a couple of weird posts to every company suddenly talking about it.

Or that the same customer complaint keeps appearing across completely unrelated products.

I would never remember all of that.

Grok Bot can.

One thing means almost nothing

This is probably the rule I'll hammer into it hardest.

Don't get excited because one person said something.

The internet is full of people saying stupid shit.

I want clusters.

Say Grok notices:

A competitor changed its homepage around one problem.

Fine.

Log it.

Then another company launches a product around the same problem.

Interesting.

Then people on Reddit keep complaining about it.

More interesting.

Then people on X start using the same wording.

Now come and get me.

That's something I might want to know.

Or build around.

Or change my positioning around.

Or completely ignore after looking at it myself.

But at least I saw it.

Use the words your customers use

This is something marketers are terrible at.

We sit in meetings and invent phrases like:

"AI-powered integrated workflow orchestration."

Meanwhile the customer is saying:

"I just want this thing to do the boring stuff for me."

Guess which one I'd rather put on a landing page.

So I want Grok Bot collecting repeated phrases from:

→ Comments

→ Reviews

→ Reddit

→ X

→ Forums

→ Customer complaints

→ Competitor testimonials

Especially when the same language appears more than once.

That becomes a separate bank I can search.

If I'm writing a landing page about something later, I don't want to sound like a saas homepage. I want the words customers actually use.

Show me how actual people describe the problem.

I'll write it.

Watch what competitors are spending on

This one is really useful.

Most companies publicly show you what they're testing.

Meta Ad Library alone is ridiculous for this.

I want Grok Bot looking at:

New ads.

Ads that disappear quickly.

Ads that stay live for ages.

Different hooks being tested for the same product.

New offers.

New landing pages attached to those ads.

Big changes in creative.

If a competitor has been running the same ad for three months, I'm probably more interested in that than an ad they launched yesterday.

They are literally paying to give me clues.

Might as well look.

Watch what competitors are changing

Homepage changes are another one.

Most people visit a competitor once and mentally freeze the company there forever.

But companies constantly change:

Headlines.

Categories.

Use cases.

Customers they're targeting.

Pricing.

Features they lead with.

Features they suddenly stop talking about.

I want a history of that.

Something as simple as:

January: "AI assistant for marketers"

March: "AI marketing team"

June: "Autonomous marketing platform"

That tells you something.

Especially when several companies start moving in the same direction.

Give me content opportunities

This is probably where I'll use it most.

But I don't want it generating generic ideas like:

"5 Ways AI Is Changing Marketing"

I'd delete the Bot.

I want:

People have started arguing about X.

Three companies changed Y.

This claim keeps appearing but the numbers don't make sense.

Everyone is talking about this launch but nobody seems to have noticed this part.

Customers keep asking for something the companies aren't talking about.

That's a post, article, or something I should go deeper on.

Find the stuff worth testing

Content isn't the only output.

It might find:

A competitor offer worth studying.

A new customer segment appearing.

Language worth testing on a homepage.

A channel people in my space suddenly seem to be using.

A recurring problem nobody is really solving.

An ad angle worth looking into.

A topic I should probably stop talking about.

I don't want Grok making the decision.

I want it bringing me a much better pile of evidence to make the decision with.

My setup

The actual setup is pretty simple.

Grok Bot

↓

Watchlist

↓

Browser + websites/accounts it needs

↓

Marketing Intelligence log

↓

Daily scans

↓

Only escalate useful signals

That's pretty much it.

I'll probably spend the first couple of weeks telling it:

Don't care.

Don't care.

Already knew that.

That's useless.

Okay... THAT is interesting.

And it should get better from there.

The instructions

Here's roughly what I'm giving mine:

NAME

Marketing Intelligence

JOB

Constantly build an up-to-date understanding of the market around my business.

Watch the companies, people, products, topics, communities and sources in my watchlist.

Look for meaningful changes in:

→ Positioning

→ Products

→ Pricing

→ Advertising

→ Customer language

→ Customer complaints

→ Search behaviour

→ Social conversations

→ Content

→ Offers

→ Industry direction

Do not send me general news summaries.

Do not send me every change you find.

Log smaller signals and keep watching them.

Escalate something when multiple signals connect, something changes materially, or you find something I am likely to want to act on.

When you escalate something, give me:

WHAT HAPPENED

The actual change or pattern.

EVIDENCE

Show me where it came from.

WHY I SHOULD CARE

Keep this specific to my business, audience or marketing.

WHAT ELSE SUPPORTS IT

Look for other signals before reaching a conclusion.

COUNTERARGUMENT

Tell me why your conclusion could be wrong.

ACTION

Tell me what you think is worth doing, testing, researching or watching.

Never publish, contact anyone, change campaigns or spend money without my approval.

First task

I'm not going to tell it to "start monitoring marketing."

That's too vague.

First job:

Build the watchlist.

Find:

→ The companies worth following

→ Their websites

→ Their social accounts

→ Their ad library pages

→ Important people around them

→ The communities where customers discuss them

→ The main products in the market

→ The topics and phrases worth tracking

Bring the list back to me.

I'll delete half of it.

Add the stuff it missed.

Then let it start watching.

Because that's what I actually want from AI here.

I want a Bot quietly watching thousands of things I don't have time to watch...

and occasionally saying:

Liam. Look at this.
